Have you met Mardi Masewich, our January Employee of the Month? Mardi works out of our Seniors for Seniors Ottawa branch and was chosen because of her friendly attitude and care towards all her clients.
Mardi recently shared what being a Senior Companion means to her. Read on to learn more about Mardi’s experience being a part of the Seniors for Seniors team:
1. How did you hear about Seniors for Seniors and why did you decide to join the company?
After I retired I needed something to fill my time. I started to volunteer by visiting retirement homes and doing hospital visits through my church. I enjoyed working with seniors who needed a friendly voice and sometimes just a hug or someone to hold their hand to let them know they are cared for.
When I was waiting for a doctor's appointment I noticed a Seniors for Seniors pamphlet. As I read it I thought, I could do that. I love working with seniors and this job would give me access to more seniors. I applied for a job and was able to start working with Seniors for Seniors right away.
2. What is your favorite companion/caregiver experience or story?
I have so many wonderful experiences working with all my clients. One event that stands out happened last Christmas. I went with one of my clients to a Christmas concert. She has a musical background and even with her memory loss she was still able to enjoy the music. She has this amazing smile and being the gentle person that she is, it was a wonderful experience for both of us as well as the other people who attended the concert. A picture and visit with Santa followed, the picture is still on her dresser at the retirement home.
3. How has Seniors for Seniors benefited you and your clients?
I could never say enough about the staff at Seniors for Seniors in Ottawa. The support I receive is amazing. They are always available to assist me in every way they can. Their advice and guidance is available to me at all times and no question is too small. My clients have mentioned many times the support and guidance they receive as well. The gentle way the staff assists them in very trying situations, such as family situations, is very helpful.
4. How has being a Senior Companion enriched your life?
How can I start to express how being a Senior Companion has enriched my life? It is a wonderful privilege that I get to meet and assist these wonderful seniors I have encountered. Their smiles touch my heart and bring tears to my eyes many times. They add purpose and joy to my life. My wish is that I can touch their lives as much as they touch mine. How many people can say that they can't wait to get started with their day? Every day is a new and wonderful experience.

Your services were excellent and our family appreciates the care my mother received from Dianne. It was comforting knowing that she was in good hands while we were all at work.
