Why I Decided To Open a Seniors for Seniors Branch
When my Aunt Dorothy entered a long term care home my family and I quickly learned that she was an introvert and was reluctant to join the many group activities offered by the long-term care facility. It was clear that she needed more one-on-one support. Realizing this we turned to Seniors for Seniors for help.
Seniors for Seniors provided a friendly face who would visit my aunt several times a week to engage her in activities. Her caregiver would take her for coffee and read to her, bring books to discuss and play games with her. The companion caregivers that are offered by Seniors for Seniors allow for individuals who are more reserved, like my aunt, to foster relationships with companions close in proximity to their age. This is one of the many added values that personal home care support can offer you and your loved ones. For my Aunt Dorothy and our family, this service was a lifesaver – we knew that she was looked after and in good company between our visits.
Through my experience with Dorothy, I saw first-hand how Seniors for Seniors could fill in the gaps and make a real difference in the lives of our clients. After setting up my aunt’s care with Seniors for Seniors, I decided to contact the owner about opening my own branch. I was in the midst of working on my Certificate in Gerontology at Ryerson and wanted to find a career that would combine my business background with a field that I felt connected to, i.e. eldercare.
My goal within the Seniors for Seniors Simcoe-Muskoka team is to provide the same kind of service and experience to our clients that my aunt was provided in the final years of her life. I work carefully to hire staff who feel as passionately about good quality senior care as I do. I want all of our caregivers to develop strong bonds with our clients and their families.
