Allow us to introduce Sandra Lockwood, our April Employee of the Month. Sandra was selected because of her patience, care and positivity to her clients. She wants her clients to live fulfilled lives and they appreciate her because of it!
We asked Sandra some questions about being a Senior Companion. This is what she shared about her experience being on the Seniors for Seniors team:
1. How did you hear about Seniors for Seniors and why did you decide to join the company?
Senior for Seniors first came to my attention as an advertisement in Silver and Gold magazine. I applied by email. The manager contacted me and this was followed up by interview. It seemed like a logical situation as seniors are more comfortable with more mature caregivers. After all, patience and tolerance do improve with age!
2. What is your favorite companion/caregiver experience or story?
One of my first assignments was with an educated and accomplished gentleman who had macular degeneration and was losing the ability to read. He asked me to read to him. We both loved books and I would read to him in the afternoons. Some stories were humorous and some sad and we would laugh or be sad together. Even though he had a form of dementia, we connected and discussed many current issues. He deeply appreciated our times together and looked forward to our next day together. His smiles and laughter made it all worthwhile.
3. How has Seniors for Seniors benefited your clients?
Often our clients do not have family able to devote the time they need due to the demands of their lives. We provide the care and companionship that our clients need. Assisting with personal care, emotional support and supervision to allow the client and the family to have a good quality of life. We are also a liaison between the client and the family to provide reassurance of the client's well-being in situations where the client cannot communicate clearly.
4. How has being a Seniors for Seniors caregiver enriched your life?
Seniors for Seniors has provided a venue for me to offer a positive contribution to our senior community. This encourages me to learn more about the aging process and to always treat our clients with respect and care. I can still contribute to making a difference in the lives of people who can no longer care for themselves. Everyone needs a purpose in life. We become part of an extended family for our clients and their relatives. And we receive much love in return. All this would not be possible without the wonderful support we receive from our office and our fellow team members.

The caregivers have all been conscientious, caring and skilled service providers. Providing 24-7 coverage can be problematic but with Seniors For Seniors we have experienced an exceptional commitment from management to ensure continuity of service at all times.
