Every month we pick an outstanding member of our Seniors for Seniors team to be our Employee of the Month. Theresa Bennie was chosen to be our June Employee of the Month because of her kindness and diligent care to her clients. Her clients' families appreciate her efforts and so do we!
Here is what Theresa had to share about being a Senior Companion at Seniors for Seniors:
1. How did you hear about Seniors for Seniors and why did you decide to join the company?
After my mother passed away, I wanted employment part-time. I searched on Google and typed in "part-time work for seniors" and Seniors for Seniors showed up. I thought okay, I'm going to try being a driver/companion, and I haven't looked back since!
2. What is your favourite companion/caregiver experience or story?
I came out of a male client's senior residence and a lady in the hall said "oh, are you visiting your dad today?." I said no, and left it at that. She's probably still wondering who I am and why I was at my client's apartment.
3. How has Seniors for Seniors benefited your clients?
So many seniors feel cooped up in their residence and they can't go out alone. I take them to the mall, Tim Hortons, or even just for a walk. They are so easy to please, a little kindness goes a long way. They are very grateful whenever I visit and they always look forward to the next visit.
4. How has being a Senior Companion enriched your life?
I have met so many nice clients and their families. I was with one client once a week for nine months. Sometimes it was twice a week. I was really attached to her and when she passed away I received a lovely card from her family saying that their mom never stopped talking about me. Her family said they were so glad that I brought happiness and kindness to their mom. I was really touched when I received that card.
